When you enter into his office, Tyler Mike might seem like any other business owner, except with massive arms.

What You Need To Know

  • Most bodybuilding showcases have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic

  • Tyler Mike is hopeful that at some point within the next year, he will enter into another bodybuilding show

  • Powerhouse Gym in Baldwinsville was open 24 hours until the pandemic forced them to shorten their hours

That’s because Tyler is the co-owner of Powerhouse Gym in Baldwinsville, living out his second career as a business owner, and doing something that he’s loved since he was young.

"When I started lifting weights, it was just more to do something good for my body. I didn't know where it was going. I knew I loved it, from the minute I touched the weights it felt like an energy that really related to me," says Mike.

That passion started off in his first career, and if you look in his office, he has the hardware to show it off. Tyler is a bodybuilder, and a champion bodybuilder at that.

"I didn't do the greatest my first show, but I knew that I had potential and I loved it," Mike says. "In 2017, I finally received my pro card, and that was just a big accomplishment and boosted my morale into what I wanted to do with working out and bodybuilding, and drive me further into where I'm at today."

After having a show canceled earlier this year due to the coronavirus, Mike is still putting in the work for another opportunity at a title.

"I want to say that I’m going to do another show. It’s in the background of everything I'm doing here at the gym, so I never rule it out," he says.

And while he’s getting his workout in, Mike is following all the protocols. Despite being the owner, he’s practicing what he preaches, and safety comes first.

"We’ve always had a stringent cleaning plan in place, now more-so than ever, with keeping an employee on while we are open. There’s constantly cleaning going on," he says.

And while most of us would call it a day after a long workout, Mike is not done. In fact, he’s here helping others, passing on his passion for weightlifting to everyone who enters his gym.

"It’s inspiring to see people coming in that have been working out for years that want to be pushed a little bit harder, or for somebody coming in for the first time and it’s all new to them," he says. "And to be able to be a part of that experience with them as a trainer is hugely motivating."
