A high profile murder trial in the Mohawk Valley is expected to get underway this week.
Jason D'Avolio is charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse in connection with the death of his wife, Kerrilee D'Avolio, in 2019.
The trial has been on hold because of the pandemic, but jury selection is finally expected to begin.
D'Avolio was killed in July 2019. Her husband told investigators she had committed suicide. He maintained this in a non-guilty plea during his arraignment in Oneida County Court last September. However, investigators say she was shot in the back of the head before being left in a dumpster.
Her body was eventually found in an Oneida County landfill.
The DA's office did offer a plea deal in the case — 20-years to life — but Jason D'Avolio turned it down, electing to go to trial instead.
Kerrilee D'Avolio worked at the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency as a classroom aid.
