Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon celebrated another milestone for the Loop the Lake trail Wednesday.
He joined Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli to open the trail's latest extension, a one-mile stretch on the west side of Onondaga Lake.
The area has been largely been cut off to public access but the extension now allows for more room for visitors.
"This trail has been nothing but a success. When you think about what we're going through as a community right now and what we've done to get ourselves through this pandemic from a mental health standpoint, I can tell you our parks system and this trail specifically has never been busier,” McMahon said.
The next phase of this project will extend the trail over the CSX railroad bridge to connect with the creekwalk.
