The end of July is usually the biggest weekend of the year in the city of Oswego.
However, Harborfest, like other popular events across the region, was canceled back in May due to the pandemic.
Upwards of 90,000 people typically make their way to the festival every summer, however, there was little argument when officials decided to cancel it for the year as a precaution.
Mayor William Barlow says visitors are still welcome in the Port City. Many of the restaurants have expanded outdoor seating, while you can take advantage of the nice views of Lake Ontario.
"Oswego's known for its world class waterfront. You can still walk in Breitbeck Park and check out our new seating areas in Breitbeck Park and safely socially distance. You can still go kayaking, you can still go fishing, you can still be on your boat. Those are some of the activities we encourage people to do," said Barlow.
The mayor says a year off gives city and event officials more of a chance to fully re-evaluate the event to see how they can improve it next year.
