Delphi Falls is now reopened after it closed last week because people were not following the rules. Staff say they plan to keep a closer eye on activity to prevent the park from closing again.

What You Need To Know

  • Park reopened after it closed last week when people refused to follow rules.
  • Staff will have a stronger presence in the park to prevent more rule breaking.
  • Visitors are expected to pick up trash, social distance, and be respectful.

“When we walked down the stream we did see a couple of things that we picked up and put in our bags so we’ll throw it away on our way home," said visitor Amanda Crumb. "It looked like It was all cleaned up.

Litter, alcohol use, and ignoring COVID-19 regulations led to the closure of Delphi Falls Park last week.

“People were using the park inappropriately," said Madison County Planning Department Associate Planner, Jim Petreszyn. "We really have to worry about safety we closed it down so people get the hint that you really need to follow the rules.”

The park is fairly new and officials want to make it clear what behaviors will be allowed. To prevent more rule-breaking, staff will have a stronger presence in the park.

“When people come here we’ll talk to them a little bit and make sure they understand what we’re doing," said Petreszyn.

Since reopening, staff say they’ve already notified a difference.

“It’s a beautiful place. Most people are just fine. You can step in the water, you can take your toddlers and splash around that’s never been a problem and we want people to do that," said Petreszyn.

“It’s beautiful It really is. We walked all the way down the stream I talked to the park ranger and he told me about the history of it It’s very nice," said Crumb.

The park is still developing. Currently, it’s a little small and can only get a good view of one of the two waterfalls. Trails will soon be built to fix that.
