Officer Curtis Morgan is with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office's Community Affairs Unit.

"We're no longer able to go out into the community to our normal places. Schools obviously are closed, senior centers are pretty much secured down. So we've switched to an almost extensively online," Morgan.

The unit is posting videos reading to children, hosting coloring contests, and sharing safety tips.

"Once a day we put up a Pledge of Allegiance that's from a school or a local place that has a flag. It’s just something to bring some normalcy to these kids. Every day they were in school, and the Pledge is something they expect," he said.

Officer Morgan said they would usually talk to about 30 to 40 people at schools, but now their audience is much bigger.

"We can look back on the Facebook Live demographics, and it will tell us that we've connected with at a single time 100 to 200 people, and then 2,000 to 3,000 people may have watched the video or more, anything that we can do to show the public or to potential new hires that we're average people,” said Morgan. “We just do a job. Depending on the day it could change what we're doing and how we operate, but I think any positive influence you could set out there is good."
