Feed Our Vets is staying open, but safety measures are in place.
"From now on until this coronavirus clears up, we're gonna be actually distributing the food outside," said Feed Our Vets Founder and Executive Director Richard Synek.
Everything is continually cleaned, and these changes mean guests will no longer be visiting the indoor pantry. Still, they'll get about a week's worth of food. The cart of food meets each food group.
Army veteran and Feed Our Vets volunteer Carl Davis is glad they're still open.
"It's not just a food pantry. You're dealing with a lot of veterans, and it gives us an opportunity to talk to other veterans, because we kind of speak the same language," Davis said.
That "language" is being spoken even more at Feed Our Vets these days. More of our country's heroes are visiting the pantry.
"The need in this area has gone up now with this coronavirus," Synek said. "We have a lots of vets calling. They are worried we are closing down. We are not closing down."
"We'll overcome this because we're a strong, resilient country," Davis said.
However, with many businesses closing, donations have dropped significantly. The organization's founder is asking for help.
"We have received very little food donations, and very very little monetary donations, so one of the main things, it's critical to Feed Our Vets to ask for donations," Synek said.
Feed Our Vets will be open every Wednesday afternoon from 3-5 p.m., and on the third Saturday of each month from 8-11 a.m. at their location, which is 587 Main Street, New York Mills.
