Many dog owners use peanut butter to train or reward their pups but some brands of peanut butter can be toxic.

According to employees at Nottingham Pet Clinic, the ingredient to look out for is Xylitol. The ingredient can be found in sugar free peanut butters, candies and gum. And, can be toxic to dogs, causing a increase insulin production.

CountryMax pet supply Director of Sales says the best tip to keep your dog safe is stick to dog food.

“Pay attention to the label,” said CountyMax Sales Director Brad Payne. “Make sure it is labeled for dogs and try to resist the urge to give your dogs any snacks, treats, goodies from the table that are for people not for dogs.

Payne tells us there are peanut butter brands made specifically for dogs.

If you are unsure if your dog has eaten foods containing Xylitol, symptoms include vomiting, dizziness and seizures.
