One person was killed in a fire in Frankfort on Friday morning.

Crews were called around 7 a.m. with reports of a person trapped in the home. It took firefighters an hour to get the fire under control.

The Frankfort Center fire chief says the weather didn't help response efforts.

"It always causes trouble when you have, when you're short of manpower,” said Frankfort Center Fire Chief David Miller. “When you have travel conditions like this, the travel time gets extended."

While inclement weather does cause issues for responding fire crews, the Utica fire chief said there are some things people can do to help crews as they respond such as not parking on the street and keeping fire hydrants accessible.

"I can't emphasis this enough. Fire hydrants belong to neighborhoods. They don't just belong to the house that maybe the fire hydrant sits in front of," said Chief Scott Ingersoll. "If we can't find the fire hydrant, it makes our life a lot difficult, delays application of water to fire, and causes a lot of delays."

Ingersoll also reminds people to keep snow away from outlets, watch burning candles, and get your fireplace inspected if you haven't used it in a while.

In regards to the Frankfort fire, Chief Miller said another person lived in the building but wasn't home. The cause is being investigated.
