Transforming Utica's Harbor Point has been talked about for years.
"It was approved or developed 50 years ago, but basically we've been working on it for about six," said Utica Harbor Point Development Corporation Chairman Vincent Gilroy.
Gilroy said some properties in the Harbor Point area will be shifting owners, eventually giving project leaders and developers what they need.
"It's the prime spot for viewshed and where we have planned our roundabout and all that stuff," he said.
It's taken many years to get to this point but now things are moving quickly.
"We're already kind of in 'go-time'. We're talking to these developers, and we're working with them on what we envision and what they envision, and it's really going well," said Gilroy.
That vision is a four-seasons waterfront destination; a residential and commercial neighborhood.
"With everything going on with Nexus, and all those things in downtown Utica, it's just the next piece of the puzzle," Gilroy said. "It fits right in with everything. It's amazing what's going on around here."
This spring, the harbor walls are expected to be finished, Wells Avenue will be extended, and one of the parcels will have another layer of dirt laid on it.
