A Syracuse City program would help first time home buyers, and beautify city neighborhoods.
The Common Council approved a $2 million application to the New York Affordable Housing Corporation. That funding would go toward building 50 new single family homes.
Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens says housing placement is yet to be determined. But she says the benefits of the program are two-fold.
"For those people in the middle who are ready for ownership or on the verge of being ready for home ownership." said Owens. "We believe could qualify with a bank and we would take all the steps necessary to prepare them, to provide them the opportunity and to help our neighborhood."
The city hopes to know if the funding is approved by summer.
