Downtown Syracuse was staged this week as New York City. That’s exactly what brought Molle DeBartolo from the Big Apple back to the Salt City.

"I mean, if this was an opportunity that was here when I graduated from college I might not have ever moved to New York, but I graduated and said I got to get out of here and go somewhere I can actually get some work," said DeBartolo, "The Ultimate Playlist of Noise" unit production manager.

DeBartolo is a Fayetteville native. She returned home a few years ago to work for American High, a Liverpool-based production company. Since then, she’s worked on eight films in the area. As the Unit Production Manager, she's controlling the chaos on the set of “The Ultimate Playlist of Noise.”

The movie centers around a high school senior who's going to go deaf after surgery, so he takes advantage of his hearing.

"It's completely mind-blowing,” said DeBartolo. “I never could have thought that this is an opportunity that would have ever happened and I'm so grateful for the opportunity for me but also for the local kids and students."

DeBartolo is one of about 70 crew members working on the movie. Across town another few dozen people are working on “Gabriel’s Inferno.”

It’s a sign of a successful film industry in Central New York.

"This won't be the last time,” said Visit Syracuse Vice President of Film, TV & Entertainment Eric Vinal. “The good thing with this is more locations will get on board.

"We need to build a workforce up. We need to get more people in the unions and working on our crews. The more the better for us."

The film industry is expected to bring in about $18 million to Central New York.

Each movie takes about a year from filming to release. "The Ultimate Playlist of Noise" is expected to debut on Hulu next holiday season. "Gabriel's Inferno" will stream on Passionflix.

The Syracuse Film Office says three more movies are interested in filming in Syracuse in January.
