The Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) is making it easier to qualify for grant money to help with lakeshore flooding that damaged areas near the water this past spring and summer.

Municipalities need to match 5 percent of funds instead of 15 percent.

A panel put together by Gov. Andrew Cuomo studied the resiliency of communities along Lake Ontario's shorelines and held listening sessions all summer.

Now they have to hand out $300 million in economic development and infrastructure grants.

The commission will also set aside $30 million for projects focused on private businesses that support the shoreline.
