A contentious 2017 trial in Oneida County will gain national attention once again, now that “Forensic Files” is creating an episode featuring it.
The show's experts went to Utica to dig deeper into the Kaitlyn Conley murder trial. She was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter for poisoning her ex-boyfriend's mother and is serving up to 25 years in prison.
“Forensic Files” interviewed one of Utica College's cybersecuity and forensics experts about the digital evidence and its role.
Tony Martino examined the evidence and testified. He said “Forensic Files” is focusing a lot on the differences between the first and second trial.
Martino says the extra time they had to investigate before the second trial helped them find key evidence on Conley's phone.
Martino believes this played a significant part in helping the jury reach a verdict.
"Just so many different components that were disparate when this case began and the digital forensic evidence connected each of those dots and in the end completed the full picture,” Martino said.
Martino says documentaries help shut down any falsehoods.
The episode is expected to air early next year.
