At-risk students across Herkimer County will soon receive the help they need.

Nearly $1 million will be used over the next four years to hire more family school navigators, buy software to help identify students who may be developing serious emotional issues, and to expand services with local agencies.

"It's very very tough for us to see that need, and only to be able to address a certain amount because we are limited in resources,” said Herkimer County Director of Public Health Christina Cain. “So when we saw this option, we just went for it."

The county has been working toward getting this grant for about two years.
