Five people have been hospitalized — two in serious condition — following a fire in Oswego County.
Crews were called to 2494 County Route 176 in Volney before 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.
New York State Police were first on the scene and were able to get all five people out. Nine departments in total responded to the scene.
Samiel and Marlene Distin, both 84-years old, were transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for burns and smoke inhalation. Both are listed in serious condition.
51-year-old Serena Shepard, 23-year-old Crystal Reitz, and 21-year-old Jared Shepard, were transported for smoke inhalation. They were also transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center.
Firefighters arrived to see flames coming from the lower part of the house and out the window. They were able to get the fire under control quickly.
Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire.
