The Village of East Syracuse has implemented a revitalization program to help residents improve their property.
"It's a program where residents have the opportunity to apply for a competitive grant of $500 reimbursement for repairs to the front of their home," said Robert Tackman, (PO) East Syracuse mayor.
We're talking anything from new siding and doors to a fixed mailbox or window.
"It's an older village and a lot of older homes the paint is wearing down. Hopefully with this program, it will encourage people to look at some of the historical factors and maybe try to repaint and bring back some of the old dowels on their porches, things that will kind of bring back the character," Tackman said.
"I think it's a good idea honestly. It brings more life to the community, more pizzazz as people would say, really bring in a lot of new outsiders," Shamy said.
As more people begin to take advantage of the program, some residents are hoping it will create a domino effect; where more people are attracted to the area, and it acts as a plus for the economy.
"There's been some businesses that have closed down and turned into new businesses, so if we could revitalize and make stuff better, it could really amp some business up," Shamy said.
The grant is already available for residents to apply. You can pick up the application at the Village office or apply on the Village of East Syracuse website.
