Utica Police are investigating a homicide that occurred during a fight overnight.

According to police, officers responded to a fight on the 600 block of Varick Street around 1:10 a.m. Friday. When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Thomas Bell of Utica lying in the street with multiple stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators learned that a fight broke out at the corner of Varick Street and Cooper Street. The fight escalated and continued north on Varick Street. During the altercation, three men, including the victim, were stabbed.

28-year-old Kwame Spratt of Utica has been arrested and charged with murder in the second degree.

Investigators are speaking with several witnesses and reviewing all available video survellience.

This is the second homicide in the city in less than a week.

"It has been a busy week, and it has been taxing on the entire division and the police department as a whole, but we are well prepared to handle them," said Utica Police Lieutenant Bryan Coromato.
