An anticipated study released Tuesday supports the idea of merging Onondaga and Madison County's 911 dispatch centers.
Winbourne Consulting determined that the Onondaga County center's training and technology could benefit residents in Madison County and recommends a multi-phase approach.
The centers would fully consolidate within the next four years if the plan goes through. Dispatchers would work under one roof in the Onondaga County facility.
Researchers say that would allow them to share information. But not everyone is on board with the idea.
"Madison County dispatchers are trained in Madison County. They are learning Madison County and I think that puts a big red flag up going to a different county where you may not always get a person right away, bothers me,” said Madison County dispatcher Thomas Molinari.
Lisa Madden, vice president of Winbourne Consulting Next Generation 911, understands those concerns but said a merger brings new opportunities.
"The information that can be sent out to the first responders in the field that has not been previously available, all of that combined will decrease the response times,” she said.
The consulting company and county officials will present the study to the public on June 27.
The presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. at Chittenango High School.
