High waves are causing new problems along the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Water levels are now at 248 feet, which exceeds the record set in 2017.

The high water levels combined with the wind are adding to the damage already seen in places like Oswego's Wrights Landing Marina, which closed on Friday and will remain closed until further notice.

For them, the biggest concern lies at the break wall. The structure is supposed to protect the marina and its boats, but the wall is starting to deteriorate.

“The big difference I see from 2017 to today is the wave action at the break wall,” said Oswego County Emergency Management Director Randy Griffin. “Having white caps inside the harbor is a significant issue, not just from how it looks but for the infrastructure for the port and the city. Rocks are being pushed into outflows. Thirty-six inch pipes are being filled with rocks and things like that inside the harbor.”

Those high levels have cause water to spill into the parking lot.

Oswego Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management Randy Griffin says utilities and electric will remain shut off for the public safety reasons.

"The docks you see were temporary built in," Griffin said. "They were built up over existing docks, even those are being over taken by the water."

Once the waters recede, the Marina will open back up again.

Communities along the lake's southern shore remain under a flood warning through Tuesday morning.
