A new apartment building in Syracuse's north side is helping low-income families.

The $17.6 million development has 50 brand new units. Rent ranges from $600 to $800 per month.

The building is also open for anyone with mental health issues who is working to become more independent.

Developers say they hope it spurs more growth in Syracuse.

"This is an area of the city that's going to benefit, we think, from a beautiful new building and sort of the investment that went into the neighborhood, and hopefully help the rest of the neighborhood rise," said CSD Housing LLC Managing Member Mike Dehmler.

Contractors of the apartments are also working on another housing development on State Fair Boulevard that is set to finish later this year.
