A new bike trail will connect the state fairgrounds to other parts of Onondaga County.

It’s a part of a $36 million project to build a statewide bike trail along the Erie Canal. Construction will allow people to walk or bike from DeWitt, through downtown Syracuse all the way to the other side of the county.

It could help boost a big regional event.

"The Empire State trail will literally go through the state fair, in gate 2, out gate 12, and tie the State Fair into this broader tourism and public asset that we're creating here in Syracuse," said Andy Beers of the Empire State trail.

Developers hope to have the trail and necessary bridges built by the spring of 2021.
