If you're looking for a new adventure, look no further than New York's Canals.

The state launched its "Canalway Challenge" on Wednesday.  You can walk, run, cycle or paddle along New York's 524-mile canal system, which includes the historic Erie Canal.

There are different distances you can challenge yourself with — anywhere from 15 miles to 360.

The lead organizer said participants will be on a journey of self-discovery, but also see what the state has to offer.

"There's great small towns and just these hidden gems of places you might never go in a car," said Jean Mackay, the Erie Canalway National Heritage Center communications and outreach director. "But when you're traveling at a slower pace when you're cycling, running or paddling, you stop and see things that are just magical to discover."

You can sign up for the Canalway Challenge on its website.

Once you finish, you will receive a car magnet and decal to display.

The first 1,000 finishers will also get a gear bag.

There will also be a Canalway Challenge kick off event on June 15 at the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park.
