The Whitesboro Police Department held a mass Thursday in honor of Officer Kevin Crossley, who died one year ago in the line of duty.
Family, friends and fellow officers joined forces at St. Paul’s Church in Whitesboro to pay their respects to Crossley and his family.
"It's been a long year, but we are healing,” said Whitesboro Police Chief Dominick Hiffa. “We are healing well. Kevin is in our thoughts every day. You know we talk of him, we think of him, we miss him."
"They are what you call true friends,” said Linda and George, Kevin’s parents. "The support of friends, family, community, everyone has been so great to us. We could not have gone through this without the help of everybody."
"I hope he is up there in the sky riding his Harley, or on his boat, or snowmobile or something, because that is what I said a year ago; anything with a motor would make Kevin smile,” said Hiffa.
"Smiling and coming to the door with his police uniform on, and he had so many plans, but plans change,” said Linda. "Life does not guarantee that your plans will always be there, but he lived a full life."
Crossley was, for seven years, a full-time member of both the Whitesboro and Whitestown police departments. Police believe he was likely chasing after a traffic violator at the time of the crash.
