Forestport Elementary School in Oneida County could be on the brink of closure.

A final vote on the school’s future is scheduled for Tuesday night.

A special meeting was held Monday night by the Adirondack Central School District Board to hear from parents in the district.

The school is facing a $620,000 budget deficit.

Many parents at the meeting said they're worried about school programs, jobs, and what will happen to the building if classes are moved.

"The fact is, we don't really have a lot of information from the board and from the administration that they have explored other options, explored other ways to offset the budget that they are identifying,” said Amy Weaver.

Members of the school board released a statement on Monday saying “we have listened to the concerns this evening. We will take them into consideration with the information which has been presented to us and then will make an informed decision.”

If it closes, the students from Forestport would move to Boonville Elementary. The school changes could save over $500,000.
