A sergeant with the Manlius Police Department has returned to protecting and serving the community after a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Ken Hatter was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2007, and joined the department in 2011.

In October of last year, Sgt. Hatter found out he would need a bone marrow transplant, so co-workers, with the community's support, hosted a bone marrow drive where potential donors could see if they were a match.

Hatter underwent a bone marrow transplant a short time later in November and was declared cancer-free in January.
