The FBI is investigating two separate suspicious deliveries to Social Security offices in upstate New York.

Law enforcement were called to the Social Security Administration Office on Court Street in Binghamton around 10:30 a.m. Friday. An employee was opening mail when they found a powdery substance and a letter in an envelope.

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski tells Spectrum News the letter indicated the powder was anthrax.

Tests have come up negative. At this point officials do not think the substance is dangerous.

A similar incident also happened at the social security office on Broad Street in Utica Friday. The FBI is taking over the investigations and is conducting more tests.

Spectrum News has been told there have also been recent incidents in the North Country as well.
