Chants of "Tear it down" could be heard today outside the John Street home where two boys were shot and killed last year.

The Syracuse Property was seized by the city last May, for non-payment of taxes.  But in October, 12-year old James Springer III was shot outside the home. His family moved out.

Then in December, 16-year old Antonio Gullotto was shot and killed there.

The Land Bank says the decision to tear down 165 John Street was not due to the homicides. But the demolition date was moved up because of recent events.

“Unfortunately when we do these condition evaluations sometimes the building is too far gone they've either got water damage, or fire damage or structural issues and that was the case here when we acquired it and did our initial evaluation we decided it was a demolition candidate," said Greater Syracuse Landbank Executive Director Katelyn Wright.

The city has not said if they have any plans to put something on the property once it's completely torn down.
