A Utica man is accused of trying to kill his grandmother and set her apartment on fire.

Police responded to a call from the 1600 block of West Street a little before 9:00 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they noticed the apartment was on fire.

They were able to get the victim out. She had cuts and burns on her body.

The 68-year-old told investigators she was attacked with a knife by her grandson, 23-year-old Andre Anderson. He was arrested around 4:30 a.m. Monday at a nearby motel.

Anderson is charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. Police say more charges are possible.
