A staple of the Rome community is closing its doors. The Beeches of Rome Restaurant and Inn is shutting down on Monday after nearly 70 years in business.

The Beeches has been home to many weddings and events over the years. The Rome Chamber of Commerce announced the closing Thursday morning, on behalf of the Destito family who owns the 52 acre lot.

According to the release the family gave, there was no reason given for the closure. At this point the family says they must move forward during this tough time.

"I witnessed the professionalism of the Beeches and the way that they were able to meet the needs of their customers," said Rome Area Chamber of Commerce President Bill Guglielmo. "That's very important in this day and age so that is going to be sorely missed."

The owners of The Beeches say they're currently reaching out to anyone who had events or hotel stays booked. If you need information about deposits and refunds the Beeches is encouraging you to visit their website.

The closure will not affect the Savoy restaurant or the offices at Beeches Business Park.
