Onondaga County has a new executive. Ryan McMahon was sworn in at Onondaga Community College on Sunday.
Leaders from all levels in the state watched as McMahon took his oath of office, but he says it was most important that his family was there. The former chair of the Onondaga County Legislature talked about infrastructure, poverty and politics, saying he's excited to write the next chapter for Onondaga County.
McMahon is replacing Joanie Mahoney mid-term. The former executive says she is confident her successor will make positive change throughout the county, but she still gave him some words of wisdom.
"I said just set your own priorities," Mahoney said. "Focus every day on accomplishing the things that you want to accomplish and you'll do just fine, and I think he's going to do even better than just fine."
Because McMahon is filling the position mid-term, he will be up for election in 2019 to remain county executive.
