The name of the girl who was seriously injured after being hit by a car in the town of Clay has been released.

The sheriff's office says 14-year-old Sydney Pilz is in critical condition after Wednesday night's accident. They believe the teen was walking in the westbound lane of Bear Road when she was hit.

The driver and passenger of the car involved were not hurt and are cooperating with deputies. The investigation is ongoing and no tickets have been issued.

Along Bear Road neighbors are weighing in on a possible cause of Wednesday night's accident.

A number of neighbors say this stretch of Bear Road is extra dark. It's roughly a quarter of a mile between Palomino Path and Oakpost Road.

During this stretch there are no street lights.

"At night it is fairly dark, until you get down to the northern end, with the residential area with all of the houses it starts to light up pretty good,” said neighbor James Ruff. “Down here though it is relativity dark and when I say relativity I mean very dark."

Some say they won't run or walk along the road at night because of how dark it is. Neighbors call the accident jarring to the community.
