OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Joey Abt's latest stop was at the Volney Fire Department, but this was a visit like no other.

The station made the 14-year-old its newest honorary member.

They gave him his own badge, apparel and even made him captain for the day to welcome him to the team.

Abt wants to work at a fire department when he's older, and has been touring stations over the last two years. He already exceeded his goal of 77, and now hopes to make it to 200 visits.

Abt was born with Down syndrome, but members don't want this to stop him.

"Just live the life, enjoy it," said Bob Coant, the Volney Volunteer Fire Corporation president. "Don't worry about tomorrow. Don't worry about anything. At 14-years-old, be a kid and just go after your dreams."

And Joey is doing just that. He hopes to stop in Tioga County next, and eventually go worldwide. You can follow his journey here.
