The idea to create a handicap accessible multi-sport complex in Central New York began in 2010. That dream is slowly becoming a reality.
Phase one of the Carrier Park "Field of Dreams" construction was completed in 2016, giving the Syracuse Challengers Baseball League a permanent home.
"Most of the first phase went into storm water control, the lighting, the utilities, water delivery and bathrooms and locker room facilities and these first two diamonds and as we progress forward we're looking to complete the rest of the park in phases," said Dewitt Town Supervisor, Edward Michalenko.
But park leaders say the best is still to come. They have big plans for phase 2 and 3 of the project, including the creation of a super-field which would hold two football, soccer or lacrosse games at once.
"We're going to be able to host hundreds of people and hundreds of families at all sorts of tournament and all sorts of recreational play," said Dom Cambareri, the founder of Carrier Park.
But leaders say they can't move onto phase two until they have the funding.
"It's taken a lot of faith to bring the park to the point that it's at. And it's going to take a lot more faith to complete it," said Michalenko.
