TOWN OF MARSHALL, N.Y. — The Oneida County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal house fire in the town of Marshall.
Officials say 69-year-old Mary Lou Buschor died from her injuries after a fire broke out Sunday morning at a home on Brothertown Road.
Family members tried to get her out of the home, but were unsuccessful due to heavy flames.
Deansboro Fire Chief Chris Steinmann says her husband was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns.
Their son was also home at the time, but wasn't hurt.
"If we didn't have such a brotherhood of firemen coming in like this, it would have been a very difficult situation. We're very well off where we are with manpower and the whole volunteer fire service. There was such a turnout of firemen here today. The brotherhood really showed itself today,” said Steinmann.
Investigators have idenfied the cause of the fire as a malfunctioning wood stove.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
