UTICA, N.Y. -- Progress continues on a new state-of-the-art tournament-based athletic complex in Utica.
The Nexus Center is being built next to the Adirondack Bank Center.
It will be located on the former Tartan Textile property.
There will be three ice sheets which can be converted into turf fields.
Crews have been working to make the area site-ready.
It was mentioned in the Oneida County Executive's State of the County Address because it's part of his proposed "U District".
State funding is still needed and the hope is to have shovels in the ground by fall.
"It's risen to the forefront for everybody because what Nexus targets as a demographic is exactly who we are in Oneida County," said Mohawk Valley Garden President Robert Esche. "It's a great place to raise a family and it's geared toward sports, and those are probably two of the biggest things that we have going in the County."
At the Adirondack Bank Center next door, Dunkin' Donuts was named the official coffee of the stadium and the Utica Comets on Friday.
Their hot coffee, iced coffee and hot chocolate will be sold during all Adirondack Bank Center events through September 2022.
