It's a match-up that's sure to score some smiles with special local children.

A local hockey team made wishes come true for kids in the Mohawk Valley.

The Utica College Pioneers held its annual fundraiser in New Hartford Sunday, to benefit Make-A-Wish Central New York.

A fun way they raised money for the organization this year, was by auctioning off six players to the highest bidders.

This gave the community the chance to hang out with some of the team.

Wish kids and their families were also there.

The team's coach said they have such supportive fans, so they try to get involved and give back when they can.

"When they see a young kid going who's through the biggest challenge of their life, it's certainly a special moment.  So the chance for them to spend some time with these young kids and their familes, put a smile on their face -- it's a real special thing," said Gary Heenan, Utical College Hockey Head Coach.

Make-A-Wish Central NY currently has 24 wishes in process in the Mohawk Valley.

Each wish costs on average $12,000.
