The convicted rapist who cut his ankle bracelet and led police on a statewide manhunt this past November has pleaded guilty.
Ronald Cook pleaded Monday morning to third-degree criminal mischief and intent to damage property.
Cook is getting six months in jail as part of his plea. The Oneida County District Attorney believes that's fair considering he wasn't facing charges for fleeing.
"Technically, he's civilly confined. He's not-he wasn't confined pursuant to a criminal court order so there's no charges we can file against him for fleeing," said Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara.
Cook was living in Rome at the time of the crime, and was under home confinement, when the Department of Corrections reported him missing.
He was spotted in Pennsylvania, but eventually taken into custody in Binghamton and later brought back to Rome to answer to the charges.
