CHITTENANGO, N.Y. -- Reaction across the country has been similar from all over.

"It's horrific," Doug Rainbow said. "It's pointless more than anything else. There's no explanation."

In the search for answers on how to prevent Las Vegas from happening again, opinions start to vary.

"I don't care what kind of gun control you have, I don't think you could have prevented this," Rainbow said.

Rainbow, a member of the National Rifle Association and a gun advocate, doesn't believe the Las Vegas shooting should change the gun control debate. He said while Nevada has much looser gun laws than New York, changing them doesn't prevent criminals from obtaining weapons.

"There's too many guns out there. It's not going to change," Rainbow said. "You're not going to eliminate them, you're not going to confiscate them. People will just hide them."

Rainbow believes that a few things can be done to help. He said an effort is slowly being made to address mental health. He's also an advocate for stricter penalties. But in a case like Las Vegas, where the attack doesn't come from the venue itself, but from a hotel above, prevention can be difficult.

"I don't think there's an answer to this one," Rainbow said.

As for the next one, that debate continues.

"At the same time, I'm thinking they're not going to be the last," Rainbow said. "They're not going to be the last."
