Every year, Drums Along the Mohawk attracts top talent to the Mohawk Valley -- a musical treat for the entire community. It's a decades long tradition, one a 94-year-old Rome resident attended regularly. And even though she's not able to make it out to the main performance anymore, as Melissa Krull reports, one of the groups makes sure she doesn't miss the music.

ROME, N.Y. -- It happens once every year in the city of Rome. Drums Along the Mohawk is an event that brings in world class drum corps from across the country. Members of the California group, Pacific Crest, say they love this area because it welcomes them like no other.

"This is a town that just eats, breathes and lives Drum Corps during the summer, and to see them tailgating on their front lawns and driveways, asking us and inviting us to warm up on their lawns -- it's something that we haven't seen in other cities on our tour," said Pacific Crest Assistant Administrator John Riley.

Rome is also home to one of Pacific Crest's biggest fans.

"We met her in 2010 and we warmed up in her yard and we were able to play our corps song for her. And every year she looks forward to seeing us just as much as we look forward to seeing her," said Pacific Crest Assistant Operations Manager Chris Henderson.

Her name is Jean Joseph and she loves Drums Along the Mohawk, having attended more than 30 of the shows. The almost-95-year-old lives just down the street from the event, but hasn't been physically able to make it to the performances for the past few years. So every year Pacific Crest brings the performance to her, and she remembers the first time.

"Sittin' at the porch and all of a sudden I see them one-by-one come up on the porch and that did it for me, killed me. I was crying so hard I didn't give a hoot what I looked like," said Jean Joseph of Rome.

Continuing the tradition, Pacific Crest brought the show to her again this year.

"When they leave it just like a sad, it's like when you have company and they go away, and then I be going and wiping my eyes, and my husband would say 'you miss them?' Miss them? Every one of them. They're so straight and beautiful," said Joseph.
