The New York State Fair may be ending shortly, but that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty of opportunity to continue getting some truly unique foods on the Fairgrounds.

Sunday marked the first day of the annual Taste NY Food Truck Competition. This year, 40 trucks are competing against one another for the top prize, offering fairgoers a sample of their menu for just $3.

For some food trucks, it’s an opportunity to create a unique take on classic New York food staples.

Tonzi’s Catering Company, based in Auburn, created a deep fried version of the Utica favorite, chicken riggies. Other organizations elected to utilize local produce to create their delicious creations. And some local businesses used the opportunity to spread its reach to a new market.

Glazed and Confused, a Syracuse-based donut shop, debuted their food truck Sunday, offering guests the same menu item that put them on the map in the first place.

Fairgoers get the opportunity to vote for their favorite food truck to determine the winner. New trucks will be on the Fairgrounds Monday to show off their own unique creations.
