What came first? The chicken or the egg?

We still dont know the answer to that one.

What we do know, however, is where the chicken nugget came from.

The answer? Right here in Central New York.

Located between the horse barn and the pig barn is where you'll find the chickens, and that's the spot where for the past 70 years, Baker's Chicken Coop has been a staple of the New York State Fair.

Robert C. Baker started the stand in 1949. The food scientist from Cornell University wanted people to eat more chicken so he came up with different recipies to make it tastier. What he came up with has lasted and permiated into the mianstream far beyond what he could have ever imagined.

The stand is still owned and operated by Baker's family. His daughter, Reenie, joked about how he used to bring his recipies to his six kids as his testers.

She said not everything worked, but the ones that did became classics. Oddly enough, her and two of her siblings have since become vegatarians.

"I still remember the taste from when I was a kid, and the smell is still incredible" Reenie said.

Official Celebration plans haven't yet been finalized, but even without a plan in place, fairgoers can get a taste of a classic at the Chicken Coop stand on Restaurant Row.
