New York Rep. Mike Lawler joined "Mornings On 1" Thursday, one day after introducing a measure alongside other Republican lawmakers to expel Rep. George Santos from Congress.

That move came in the wake of new charges against Santos, a Republican, which include allegations of charging tens of thousands of dollars to his donors' credit cards without their consent, identity theft of family members and inflating campaign finance reports by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

“You have the guilty plea of his treasurer admitting to this scheme that they cooked up last year and obviously a superseding indictment, and I just think enough is enough, it's time; he's unfit to serve in elected office,” said Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District covering parts of the Hudson Valley.

When questioned about protecting the GOP's slim House majority, Lawler reiterated, "It's not about the numbers. He just doesn't belong in office; it's that simple."

Santos, who represents New York's Third Congressional District, which covers parts of Queens, expressed disappointment Wednesday over the move by fellow freshmen GOP lawmakers, calling it a "dangerous precedent.”
