1. Sales ban on over-the-counter diet pills to young New Yorkers starts Monday
You can find over-the-counter dietary pills and supplements at grocery and big-box stores all over New York state. A law that goes into effect on Monday bans the sale of the supplements to anyone under the age of 18. Experts say they are underregulated and could have harmful health effects on kids.
2. New York Sheriffs’ Association President: 'End open season on police officers'
One sheriff’s deputy and one police officer were killed in a single incident in near the city of Syracuse last week. Sheriff Craig DuMond, president of the New York State Sheriffs' Association, wants the state Legislature to reinstate judicial discretion, as it pertains to a perpetrator’s dangerousness.
3. Trump trial draws attention to New York cameras in court rules
As the nation follows closely former President Donald Trump's hush money trial in Manhattan, details of what happened in the courtroom will have to come from reporters and others on site. With the exception of pool photos taken of the former president last week before the trial began in earnest, cameras and audio recorders are not allowed in court.
