1. Enrollment at U.S. Catholic schools sees largest growth in decades

With numbers slowly climbing for the first time in years, Catholic schools – and one mother and son in upstate New York – are looking to spread the word. Enrollment nationwide dropped 6.4% from 2019 to 2021, but that has since turned around.

2. Concealed carry training requirements prompt Western N.Y. gun safety course

One portion of New York’s concealed carry gun law to survive a court challenge late last year was the part requiring 18 hours of training for those applying for a concealed carry license, which prompted one Western New York gun shop to offer a class in gun safety.

3. New York congressional races key battleground for control of House

All 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for reelection, and no battleground may be more important that New York, where 26 congressional races will take place. As the map stands now, at least seven of the 26 are expected to see contentious elections as Republicans seek to protect their slim majority and Democrats seek the speakership.
