We are talking about the expansion of Paid Family Leave this weekend on In Focus.

JoDee Kenney sat down with Mark Emanatian, executive director of the Capital District Area Labor Federation, who said New York’s Paid Family Leave policies go well beyond the federal Family Medical Leave Act, which is limited to job protection. Still, Emanatian said the 60% wage benefit for 12 weeks provided by Paid Family Leave does not go far enough for the majority of New York’s workforce, citing other major democratic nations offering 100% pay for 18 weeks. Emanatian also pointed to exemptions to the state’s Paid Family Leave program for employers with fewer than 50 workers and said the state should offer incentives for small businesses to participate.
