Lewis County has the most extensive off-highway trail system, and County Manager Ryan Piche joins JoDee Kenney this week on In Focus to talk about the economic impact visitors bring to the area. In addition to hiking and snowshoeing opportunities across Lewis County, Piche said the motorized trail system can open the edge of the Adirondacks, and its natural scenery, to people with limited mobility. The county manager said revenue from permits sold to riders goes toward trail maintenance and expansion. Businesses, like shops and restaurants in Tug Hill communities along the trails, Piche said, benefit from tourism dollars year-round.
