In Focus opens a conversation on the benefits of New York’s state and local trail systems to the economy and the environment. Assemblymember Anna Kelles has supported legislation to protect New Yorkers from air and water pollution, and said trails are a major tourism draw in her district covering Tompkins and Cortland Counties. Investing in trail maintenance, Kelles said, is critical for the safety of hikers along Ithaca’s gorges. The assemblymember talked about Ithaca’s direct access to trails with picturesque natural scenery, all on top of a walkable downtown with shops and eateries.
