1. Missing submersible: All five passengers believed to be lost, company says

All five passengers aboard the missing submersible visiting the Titanic wreckage are believed to be lost, the tour company that operated the vessel said in a statement. OceanGate Expeditions did not provide details when the company announced the “loss of life” in a statement or how officials knew the crew members perished.

2. Twists in the Conservative Party primary race for Onondaga County DA

Chuck Keller, a Democrat, was recently endorsed by the Conservative Party in the race for Onondaga County district attorney. Conservative Christine Varga says she wasn't a fan of that decision and decided to enter the race herself. However, some believe Varga and current DA William Fitzpatrick hatched a plan for Varga to win the Conservative line, in order to split votes from Keller in the general election - a thought Varga denies.

3. Hochul touts early efforts of unlicensed cannabis crackdown

Over the last two weeks, New York state officials have seized 1,000 pounds of unlicensed cannabis being illegally sold in more than two dozen businesses, Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday said. All told, the cannabis seized has a value of as much as $11 million, Hochul said, as New York tries to aid a fledgling legal cannabis sector. 

4. Higher wage theft penalties measure heads to Hochul's desk

Employers accused of stealing wages from workers could be charged with felony larceny under a measure that is heading to Gov. Kathy Hochul's desk. The measure, backed by labor unions and given final approval this week in the state Assembly, is meant to address instances where workers are defrauded of their paychecks by boosting penalties. 

5. Median age of the U.S. population is older than ever

The country’s median age is now 38.9 years — the highest it’s ever been, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data released Thursday. The median American age in 2000 was 35. In 1980, it was 30.
