New York's Department of Agriculture is asking for help in identifying problem areas with an invasive species.
It says the spotted lanternfly has been detected in the grape-growing region of the Finger Lakes.
In an attempt to identify the extent of the invasive insect's established population in the area, the Department of Agriculture is urging grape growers and residents to report any sightings on the agency's website.
They are also encouraging any visitors to the area to thoroughly inspect their cars and any outdoor items for the invasive bug before heading home.
The spotted lanternfly feeds on plants and crops that are critical to New York's agricultural economy.
